Here are some recent pictures of the kids.

Playing with some friends. Sebastian thought she might be lonely.

Sleeping with his "best bud."

Evelyn loves to be able to see Sebastian, and he loves it when she smiles at him.

Sleeping babe.

Dressed and all ready for Mass. Sebastian loves to give Evelyn kisses.

This little nightgown was mine when I was a baby. She didn't like the hood.

Visit with Cousins

About a week ago, my brother Philip was in town for work. He was going to stay at Tim and Alycia's house, so the kids and I made the 1 1/2 hour drive to see them all. (It was a work day, so Patrick couldn't join us.) The drive went very smoothly (Evelyn loves the car, as long as it is moving; she just sleeps.) It was a lovely day as the boys got to play together, and Alycia and I were able to enjoy a nice visit. Then, at the end of the day Philip arrived (we hadn't seen him since Christmas) and Tim got home from work. After dinner, I drove home. Here are some pictures of the day.

This is what Evelyn did for most of the day, when she wasn't eating, she was sleeping.

Sebastian and John Paul play really well together. Though here, right before dinner, they don't look too happy.

They were watching the men who came to mow the lawn. They thought that the event was fascinating.
Trying to get them to look at me.

They decided to read books, i.e. make a mess.

While John Paul was napping, Sebastian got to play with Lucia a bit. He loves his cousins.

Too Cute!

Six Weeks Old

I now have a baby that is six weeks old and I am hoping that my life will slowly get in order. After weeks of Evelyn sleeping all day and staying awake until around midnight, I am striving to put her on some sort of schedule. Result of day # 1, she went to sleep at seven and didn't wake up again until midnight (then went right to sleep again until 4, then 8, Yay!) I was actually able to spend the evening with Patrick, versus us being in separate rooms alternating between relaxing and holding a fussing baby. I am also beginning to get things done around the house. While it is not as tidy as it was before Evelyn was born, the house is slowly returning to a state of normalcy and I am actually making dinners again. We are slowly beginning to establish some sort of routine, and some days are definitely worse than others, but I am beginning to remember what it is like to have a baby around.

Meaning of a Word

Patrick: (joking with Sebastian) "So Sebastian, what did you do today? Did you cogitate today?
Sebastian: (very seriously) "No. Cogitate means to play with cars, and I didn't play with cars."

Family

This past Sunday we were able to spend the afternoon with some of the family. As always, the cousins had lots of fun playing together. There were only six of the ten cousins present, but despite this, it managed to be a bit chaotic, but just a bit. It was also the first time that the three newest editions to the family (Lucia, 4 months, Anna, 2 months, and Evelyn, 3 weeks) were all in the same place at once. We therefore attempted (and here the key word is Attempted) to take some group pictures of these girl cousins. Unfortunately, Evelyn and Anna did not really cooperate and the one picture where Anna was happy, was taken right before Lucia pulled her hair, which meant that Anna didn't stop crying again for a bit. Here are a few of the picture attempts.

Is it Lucia or Magdalene (five years ago)?

The happiest picture that we have, unfortunately Lucia is looking the wrong way.

Lucia is about to tip over, but she still looks too cute. They all match, lots of pink and yellow.

These were the first attempts, they didn't work so well. Both Anna and Evelyn were woken up from a nap for this picture. (We were trying to get it done before Anna left.)

Sebastian really wanted to be in the picture too. Lucia is about to pull Anna's hair.

Doing What We Rather Instead of What We Should

There is a wonderful children's book by Edith Nesbit entitled, The Red House. In this book the characters talk about how easy it is to do the things that we Don't Have To Do, instead of the things that we are supposed to be doing. For example, I am supposed to be cooking dinner, instead, I am writing on a blog. Perhaps I should be editing a book, but instead, I write a letter to a friend. The thing that we are doing Instead might not be bad, but it isn't what we Should be doing. Well today, I did just that. I started painting our screened in porch. Yes, some day our porch needs to be repainted, and preferably some day soon, as the molding is pretty dirty. However, before this I need to caulk and repaint our window sills where new windows have been put in and touch up all of the places inside of the house where I have already painted, but I missed some spots. Are they both painting jobs? Yes, but it is MUCH easier to do that jobs that I don't Have to do, like painting the porch. In my defense, however, where I have painted on the porch looks much better than the old stuff. Some day I would like to paint the entire porch a pale yellow instead of the dark gray/blue that is already there, but again, not high on the Need To Do list, just the Want To Do. Here are some before and after pictures of today's work.
