Sebastian's Room

Melinda brought it to my attention that I never posted pictures of "new room." While Patrick and Sebastian were in Washington, D.C. for the March for Life, I spent a few days repainting and wallpapering Sebastian's room. I attempted to decorate his room in an age neutral way. It works now but he won't be embarrassed by it, hopefully, when he is fourteen. Here are the results. (The pictures loaded in reverse order.)

These little figurines were Patrick's when he was a young boy.

The desk probably won't stay, I just moved it into his room temporarily.

The curtains were formerly one large panel, so I cut them in half, hemmed them, and now we have two for half the price.

The room is painted country white and nautical blue with white white doors and molding.

Sebastian's Fort

One of the great things about bunk beds, is all of the different kinds of forts that one can make with it. Here is the most recent fort as well as Sebastian's thoughts about it.

On the Screened in Porch

Evelyn Loves to play outside, especially on a blanket in the backyard. However, after the great snake incident I am less inclined to have her sitting on the grass in the back (I will eventually get over this, it just might take a few more days. I really am Terrified of snakes.) Fortunately, as an alternative, we have a very nice screened in porch with a good rug for Evelyn to sit on. Sebastian also likes this rug as the weaves in it are good roads for his cars. The other day I sat on the porch and read while Sebastian napped and Evelyn played. It was lovely.

Tired Laughing

The other evening after dinner Evelyn was in a very silly mood. Apparently, she was so tired that everything seemed Hilarious. I would just look at her and smile, and she would burst into a fit of laughter. I think that this all went on for about ten minutes. I was able to capture a little bit of it on video.

Snake

One of my biggest fears when moving to the South was the thought of snakes. I hate Snakes. No, I ABHOR snakes. Even the thought of a snake makes me cringe. After two years of living here I had convinced myself that snakes didn't exist (at least around my house), merely because I had not seen one. Oh the innocence of the women. Oh the stupidity. "How naive can one be?" you ask. This evening it all changed. While mowing the lawn I saw a three-foot black snake slithering (such a good word for the awful creatures) across my lawn towards back fence. My children and I will never step into our backyard again.

Dumb Stuff

There are times when I think, "I am such an idiot." For instance, I had this thought this evening when I dropped the olive oil on the kitchen floor and stood there in exasperation, rather than cleaning it up immediately, while the oil kept pouring out onto the floor. However, I also have moments of brilliance, albeit these are few and far between. Moments like this evening, after I spilled the oil, when I did the dishes while swooshing around the kitchen floor with a swifter wet mop cloth on each foot. This way, I mopped the floor while I did the dishes. Now my floor And my feet are clean. =)

More Play Time

They love to be together, I will enjoy this while it lasts.

Pretending to sleep.

Hugging Evelyn.

Big Smiles! An example of her latest toothy grin.

Playing Together

Evelyn thinks that Sebastian is the Most Hilarious Person in the entire world. They love to just play in his room together. He loves having her around, so that he is not alone, and she loves watching to see what he will do. Yesterday Sebastian told me: "I didn't know we were going to have a baby, and then we were having a baby, and then I saw that it was Evelyn, and I love her because she is so sweet."

Wide-Mouth Frog Imitation

Of course, I didn't realize that Patrick was videoing this; so I am sorry to say that I am talking in the background.

Sebastian Mommy Day

On Saturday, Sebastian and I spent some time together. I took him to Lineberger Park in Gastonia where we rode a little mini train. Next, he played on the playground, we went to lunch at Burger King. We ended this exciting day with a trip to Kohls, Aldi, and Lowes, but he loved it all. Here are some pictures.

In the car, on the way to the park.

Standing outside the train area, waiting for our ride. We were the only people there.

Playing on the playground after the train ride.

She Wants to Crawl

Evelyn loves to do push-ups (or down dog posture), rather, she wants to start moving. She has started rolling around where she rolls under things, like the couch or the bed. Sebastian didn't crawl until 9 months, we shall see if Evelyn will beat him to it (she was 8 months on the 10th).

Refinishing Project

I refinished the bookcase and tv stand in our bedroom so that our furniture would match. Here are some, not so great but all I have, pictures of the result.

Before: Poor lighting and bad picture of the oak bookcase and stand.

After: I refinished the bookcase and stand in Bombay mahogany so as to match the rest of the furniture.

My attempt at showing how the bookcase and stand now match the bed (i.e. the rest of the furniture).

Now, the only thing in our bedroom that doesn't match is the desk, which we will eventually be moving out of here. I will put up some better pictures of our room sometime soon.
