I originally started this blog in order to share my thoughts about everything. However, I apparently have fewer thoughts than I supposed so, it has turned into a basic journal of what our family is up to these days.

On Sleeping
Sebastian: "I was just playing while I waited for sleep to come, and then a little sleep came."

Kitchen Counters
We recently tiled our kitchen counters. Rather, I should say that Patrick and Dad tiled our kitchen counters. Along with tiling they also raised the cupboards and microwave that were above the stove. (Formerly they were 13 inches above the stove top and they are now 16.5 inches above the stove top.) The added height makes cooking on the stove a lot easier. We still have to put in the backsplash and repaint the kitchen, but here is what has been done so far.
Prepping the counters for the tile. |

Sebastian, ready to get to work. |
The counters, before they were grouted or had the nice wood on the front. |
At this point I was not so sure about our choice of black tiles as I thought it looked like a tarp. |
Raising the cupboard. |
The microwave, so nice and high, and the counters with the correct wood in place. |
Now I like the black. |
The backsplash. |
This is the point where Patrick discovered that the tile they just laid was defective. (You can see him at the computer discovering) More on that part another time. |
First Day of Homeschooling
We have finally started homeschooling. I say "finally" because I have been thinking about and planning on homeschooling Sebastian ever since I was pregnant with him. Last Monday was our first day and we are loving it. I decided that this year would be an introduction to homeschooling before his "officially" starts Kindergarten. (I want him to be in K. at age 5 turning 6 so that he goes to college when 18 turning 19.) Technically then, he is in preschool, but preschool work consists of things like, "learning to count to ten" and "recognizing your shapes and colors." Things that Sebastian is past. Thus, the beauty of homeschooling, I can pick and choose whatever I want to teach him. We are focusing on reading and writing right now, but I also read to him from an Animal Encyclopedia, for Science, and chapters from A Child's History of the World for History. He also memorizes a Bible verse a week. Then, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we do "homeschool" from 8-9 and he loves it. Afterward we can go for a walk before Evelyn's nap and then he still has lots of time to play. The point of all of this though, was for him to get use to some sort of order and routine versus just doing what he wants, when he wants. Now, Mon.-Wed. He wakes up, gets dressed, makes his bed, eats breakfast, brushes his teeth, and does schoolwork. Now, hopefully, next year when we start doing school five days a week he will be a bit more ready for it. Here are pictures from his first day of school.

His latest saying...
When questioned why he did something that he wasn't supposed to do, he now replies with:
"Well, it's too late now."

Sebastian said:
Sebastian just told me, "I'm going off to get ready for my journey." me: "Where are you going?" Sebastian: "I'm going to Africa. I already said that to Daddy and if you didn't hear, you need to listen more carefully and easily."
When putting a car together. "There. I did it. It was easy as possible."
When asked about his nap: "I didn't really rest, I just played a little and got un-tempered."
No idea what this one was referring to: "I dashed through the agony of blood."
